Border poll is about reunification of the island

We must reverse wrong done to those who were shut out 100 years ago

A chara, – Paul Nash writes about a Border poll, using the retort: “You can’t choose your neighbours, but you can choose who you wish to invite into your house” (“Garvaghy standoff and ‘the worn out dreams of yesterday’”, Letters, October 8th).

It’s an inappropriate metaphor: no one is looking to come in anywhere, the poll would be about reunification, not incorporation.

Rather than an invitation to “come in”, it is more a case of reversing the wrong done to those who were – against their wishes – shut out of the metaphorical house 100 years ago. – Le meas,
