Covid rate in the North

Sir, – Paul Cullen (November 16th) makes a very effective analysis of why our Covid rates are so high, but ignores the elephant in the room.

We may have “few land borders” as he says but the principal one is incredibly porous and difficult to police. Unfortunately Northern Ireland also has an incredibly high Covid rate. Indeed it could be argued that the last few weeks has merely been about the rest of the island equalising with the rates in the North.

We may think we live in a separate territory but as usual Covid laughs in the face of our human vanities.
