Fur flies over ‘Peter Rabbit’

Sir, – I have just returned from the cinema with my mother after seeing the new Peter Rabbit movie, and I have never been so disappointed in my life. It is so sad to think that the comforting and sweet tales written by Beatrix Potter over 80 years ago have been turned into such a pathetic movie.

Aside from all the controversy about the “allergy bullying”, it bears little resemblance to the stories at all. The characters are completely unlike their written counterparts and are only made interesting by a few out-of-place jokes meant to entertain parents.

The whole movie seems to be trying to be something that it was never meant to be. Where is Mrs Tiggywinkle’s laundry basket full of starched collars? Where are the charming little details that made Potter’s magical world feel real? They’re gone, and replaced with a dynamite sequence. To anyone who loved the real Peter Rabbit and the Flopsy Bunnies, avoid this movie. – Yours, etc,

ANNA McCORMACK,
