A different view of the incinerator

Sir, – The new incinerator at Poolbeg in Dublin has been criticised for many things, not least its aesthetic impact. It certainly has a monolithic blankness, dominating coastal views northward from Sandycove to Irishtown.

However, every time I look at it, I am struck by the potential opportunities it offers as a canvas. Its vast, smooth, white facade would be ideal for the projection of images – artworks, photographs and animation. It could possibly even serve as an outdoor cinema.

So, come on Covanta and Dublin City Council, brighten up the Bay! – Yours, etc,

JOHN THOMPSON,
