In case you hadn’t heard, Conor McGregor knocked out José Aldo at UFC 194 to be crowned the undisputed featherweight champion of the world. And he did it in 13 seconds.

Twitter predictably blew up and “Conor McGregor” is now trending worldwide on Twitter.

Tributes poured in from Irish sports stars including Katie Taylor, who tweeted: "Wow. 13 seconds!! Congrats champ @TheNotoriousMMA. The best."

Shay Given also congratulated the Dubliner, saying: “Congrats to @TheNotoriousMMA what a man 13 secs and KO???? He can talk the talk but he most definitely can walk the walk.”

Rory McIlroy reacted to the fight, tweeting that McGregor had “turned a skeptic into a believer last night”.

As Ken Early points out in his report, there were 14 months of build-up for Saturday night's event, all for a 13 second fight.

Twitter took notice too and the hashtag #ThingsThatLastLongerThanAldo popped up.

A Capri-Sun, a phone on 1 per cent battery and actually typing out the words “things that last longer than Aldo” are among the things that users suggested last longer than José Aldo did in the octagon.
