He was elected to South Tipperary County Council in 2009 on the 9th count and has been re-elected at every Local Election since.
Currently the Mayor of Clonmel for the second time, he has also served on the EU Committee of the Regions since 2015.
His first shot at trying to be a TD for his party, Fine Gael, was in 2011, for the 31st Dail, and was for Tipperary South.
Although he received just over 5,400 votes, he failed to get elected.

He has said before this election that his 15 years political experience combined with 30 years’ experience as a Senior Executive with the Enfer Technology Group qualified him to effectively represent the people of South Tipperary.
Married to wife Jess, he is father-of-one, son Alex.
