Newly elected Social Democrats TD Eoin Hayes (37) has been a Dublin City councillor for the Kimmage-Rathmines electoral area since June when he won a seat in the local elections.

Born in Limerick, he has spent half his life in the US and half in Ireland in Sligo, Cork and Limerick before settling in Dublin with his partner.

A UCC graduate in chemical engineering, he also has a masters degree in management.

He has been in business in the private sector for the past 15 years, running a small consultancy firm, advising other small businesses, and start-ups, mainly softwear and technology companies, on their finances, including for directors, investors and shareholders.

In 2012 he worked as a data manager for US president Barack Obama at campaign headquarters.

A bagpipe player since the age of 10, he says his first business was playing the pipes as a child for American weddings and funerals in rural Pennsylvania.
