Tracker-mortgage scandal

Sir, – Advertisements for financial products must include the words “regulated by the Central Bank of Ireland”. In the light of the tracker mortgage scandal, we could add the qualifying phrase, “but not too strenuously”. Then we would all know where we stand in relation to financial institutions and the “regulators”. – Yours, etc,

Sir, – It seems that stealing thousands of euro from hard-pressed people isn’t a crime after all.  Government ineptitude and negligence allow this. – Yours, etc,

ALEC QUINN,

Limerick.

Sir, – The lethargic and minimising response of Government to the calls for the legitimacy of the actions of the banks regarding tracker mortgage holders to be questioned is not surprising. Could it have anything to do with the presence of several Government-appointed people on the boards of the same institutions?

The fact that the numbers of people affected is growing suggests these practices must have been known to decision-makers at the highest level.

Is the State complicit? – Yours, etc,
