SUVs running out of road

Sir, – There are more and more cars on the road that are so wide that they do not fit into standard parking spaces.

They also do not fit into standard car lanes and encroach into separate car lanes and cycling lanes.

They are also often seen parked on or driving on parts of the pavement (such as when overtaking).

At a time when public road users are battling for more space for their own transport preferences, would it not be a sensible approach to simply ban the importation of cars that are too wide for our standard public spaces?

We survived without these cars 10 years ago – we should be able to survive without them now.

They are dangerous, anti-social, and take up more space than anyone is reasonably entitled to or actually needs. – Yours, etc,
