Sir, – In the art, antiques and collection report in Friday's Irish Times (August 13th), it was reported that in Howth Castle a place has been set at the dining table for the pirate queen Granuaile for the past 450 years.

Is this an early instance of someone booking a restaurant and then failing to turn up? – Yours, etc,
