Sir, – I notice that this year, yet again, numerous public spaces in the Dublin region will be closed to the public for certain dates during the summer to facilitate musical events. Public parks which will be closed include the Iveagh Gardens, Marlay Park, Malahide Castle and St Anne’s Park.
While I accept that the promoters of these concerts pay for the use of the grounds, is there not something fundamentally wrong in making public spaces available for such commercial activity, with all its associated problems, while denying free access to the public? – Yours, etc,
LOUIS
