Literally?

Sir, – Listening to the Punchestown races on the radio, I have just heard a reporter describe the crowd waiting to see Honeysuckle as “literally the world and its mother”.

I recall another radio show host discussing our first year of Covid and exclaiming that “this year has been literally bananas”.

Most surprising was the report I heard from a national radio reporter a couple of years ago telling us that “the Dublin hurlers have literally come back from the dead”.

I fear that if I hear much more misuse of this word I will literally explode with anger. – Yours, etc,
