Russia’s energy supply to Europe

Sir, – Your editorial advocates stopping buying oil from Russia ("The Irish Times view on Russia's energy supply to Europe: An oil embargo is now more urgent", April 29th).

Previously you have backed sanctions against many Russian companies and exports.

These actions have had the effect of increasing the price paid to Russia for its fossil fuels, and in the case of gas it is increased by a multiplier of 15.

I fail to see how by thus damaging Europe’s economy we can help Ukraine.

The governments which support these sanctions do not have a mandate from their electorate to wage an economic war which damages the standard of living of those same citizens nor should you be advocating a policy which damages the Irish economy to no avail for Ukraine. – Yours, etc,
