Carbon emissions

Sir, – Regarding our failing attempts at reducing carbon emissions, one of the key reasons is that we have one of the highest per capita rates of emissions from private cars. This is partly due to the building of one-off houses in the countryside, necessitating high-mileage car usage into the future.

Against that background, imagine my surprise, on a recent road trip to Wexford, on seeing many one-off “ribbon development” houses still under construction in the coastal areas of Co Wexford.

It appears that, although central government might have an emissions plan, no one has told local government. – Yours, etc,

MIKE FORDE,
