Ahoy there

Sir, – I worked for many years in the shipping industry and thought it might be helpful to note the use of some terms in your coverage of the delay in the introduction by Irish Ferries of its new ship WB Yeats and the consequent impact on passengers.

The WB Yeats is a ship or a ferry; it is not a "boat". A ship is built and not made; it is chartered and not rented.

It is rare that the media covers the shipping industry so I understand that people may not be familiar with these terms. – Yours, etc,

MARY GALLAGHER,
