Sir, – As Ireland is about to host the presidency of the European Union, I imagine these visiting officials will be shocked by their experience as a pedestrian, passenger, driver on our roads. They will need a note in their information pack and a yellow vest.

They may wonder why there is a 30km/h speed limit in some places, but a 50km/h limit in equally busy areas. They may wonder why the regulations in many EU countries of 30km/h limit on most urban roads, have not been implemented in Ireland. – Yours, etc,
