Gardaí have staged four major checkpoints along the route taken by the cash escort that Det Garda Adrian Donohoe was shot dead trying to protect.

The checkpoints across Co Louth were set up yesterday at Omeath, Carlingford, Cooley and Lordship, between 6pm and 10pm – a week after the killing.

Gardaí stopped motorists and handed out questionnaires asking if they had taken the same route last week, and if so, if they had noticed anything suspicious.

The questionnaires will be collated today.

Questionnaires and fliers were also distributed at Dundalk Stadium where a horse-racing meeting was held last night and the night of the murder, and at a religious ceremony at St Brigid’s shrine at Faughart, which was attended by 2,000 people.
