Gardaí are trying to identify skeletal remains which were found washed-up on the shoreline in Co Clare.
The alarm was raised at about midday on Tuesday when walkers reported finding the remains on rocks at Poulsallagh near Fanore.
Gardaí requested assistance from the Irish Coast Guard .
Volunteers from the Doolin unit of the service made their way on foot across the rocky terrain and located the skeletal remains on the shore.
It is understood that the skeleton was almost intact with just the feet and hands missing and had no clothing .
The remains were taken to University Hospital Limerick where a postmortem examination will take place.
Gardaí are hoping DNA testing will help them establish the identify the body. Gardaí are also checking the missing persons database to see if there are any outstanding missing persons from Clare or surrounding counties.
This could help gardaí identify possible family members who could provide a DNA sample for comparison.
