Police in Northern Ireland are searching for a convicted murderer who escaped from prison staff during a hospital visit on Friday afternoon.

Thomas Valliday is unlawfully at large from Maghaberry prison in Co Antrim.

The 27-year-old escaped while at the Ulster hospital in Dundonald.

The PSNI’s Twitter account tweeted a warning to members of the public on Friday: “At large prisoner Thomas Valliday made off while at Ulster Hospital, Dundonald earlier. He should not be approached”.

In 2010 Mr Valliday was found guilty of the murder of west Belfast man Frank “Bap” McGreevy at his home in March 2008.

The 51-year-old father-of-two was found brutally beaten in his flat in Ross Street and died three days later.
