Seamus Moore and Gearoid Kenny Seamus, chief marketing officer at Groupon, and Gearoid, head of sales at a tech startup, met in 2009 in a Phoenix Park cafe following a Saturday morning run with the Dublin Frontrunners running club, of which they are both members.
Their first date, shortly after their first meeting, was dinner in Dublin restaurant L’Gueuleton.
“We chatted that night like we’d known each other for years,” remembers Seamus. “We both knew from then that this was it.”
On the weekend of October 17th 2014, Gearoid organised a weekend stay in Dublin city to celebrate Seamus’s 40th birthday. After dinner, a Lady Gaga concert, shopping and meeting friends, the couple went for a walk to the War Memorial gardens, a special place for them as it’s where they got to know each other during their runs.
In the Rose Garden, Gearoid asked Seamus to marry him.
Both men come from close, supportive families – from Balbriggan and Roscrea – who were involved in wedding planning from the beginning, and on September 25th 2015, they were married at Finnstown House in Lucan, Co Dublin.
Seamus walked up the aisle with his niece and bridesmaid Ciara and Gearoid was accompanied by his niece and goddaughter, Enya.
“It was the most emotional part of the day. Walking from our hotel suite with the girls was so very special.”
Along with two bridesmaids, each groom had a best man. Friends and family delivered readings and reflections during the ceremony.
The newlyweds entered the reception to It's Raining Men by Geri Halliwell.
They were hesitant about a first dance – “as we both have two left feet” – and decided instead to organise a flashmob.
One of the 150 guests, a lead dancer with Riverdance, performed, with the married couple joining in for the finale.
The honeymoon was spent in Sicily and Seville and the couple live in Dublin.
