Some 40 gardaí, including armed members, executed raids on four properties in Co Cavan to arrest three men (30s) as part of an operation targeting organised crime.

The arrests are connected to Garda investigations into two “serious” assaults on three men in Cullyleenan, Ballyconnell, Co Cavan.

The first incident – in the early hours of Sunday, August 2nd – left two men in their 30s with “serious, but non-life-threatening” injuries, said An Garda Síochána. The pair were brought to Cavan General Hospital for treatment.

Three days later – in the evening of August 5th – another man in his 30s was assaulted in the same area.

The incident, which the force said took place “outside a commercial premises”, resulted in the man being hospitalised in Cavan General Hospital.

Due to the nature of the incidents, it is understood gardaí began investigating the two incidents for connections to organised crime.

On Friday, Cavan gardaí from various units with the support of the Armed Support Unit carried out a search and arrest operation in west Cavan.

Gardaí were involved in the searches of four separate addresses in the area.

The searches were part of an “ongoing investigation into organised criminal activity” resulted in the three men, all in their 30s, being arrested.

The force said the men are being held in the northwestern Garda region under section 4 of the Criminal Justice Act 1984.
