Energy group Gaelectric will today open its €74 million Dunbeg Wind Farm, which is one of the largest wind farms on the island of Ireland.

The wind farm, which is located between Limavady and Coleraine, comprises 14 Enercon wind turbines. To date, the project has created over 40 full time and part time jobs during its development and construction phases.

Gaelectric said it will generate sufficient renewable power to meet the electricity demand of nearly 24,000 homes on an annual basis.

Meanwhile, Irish renewables investment group NTR yesterday announced it is selling two wind projects by its US company Wind Capital Group.

The two projects, Post Rock and Lost Creek based in Kansas and Missouri respectively, comprise 350MW of operating assets with long-term off take contracts.

NTR chief executive Rosheen McGuckian said the group’s review indicated that the market for selling US operational wind projects is very favourable and that the profile and quality of the two wind projects should be attractive to a wide range of potential purchasers.

“Taking these factors into consideration, the board has decided that launching a sale process is an appropriate strategy to optimise the value inherent in these projects.”
