An explosion that rocked central Milan on Thursday was not due to terrorism or any criminal action, the northern Italian city’s mayor Giuseppe Sala told reporters on the scene.
Mr Sala said the explosion had caused no deaths and that the situation was under control.
Firefighters said separately that one person had been injured and that it was unclear whether the fire originated from a van carrying oxygen canisters or one of the nearby parked cars that also caught fire.
Several vehicles caught fire after an explosion, the SkyTG24 news channel reported.
