BOHEMIANS 1

A late Marc Griffin goal secured 10-man Bohemians all three points in a fractious affair at United Park.

Having played with 10-men for 70 minutes of the game the visitors showed great discipline as second-half subs Kaelan Dillon and Griffin combined for the latter to chip the ball over Micheál Schlingermann on 87-minutes.

Bohemians were reduced to 10-men on 19 minutes when Derek Prendergast received his second yellow card in the space of a minute, however the second foul appeared to be a case of mistaken identity as Lorcan Fitzgerald appeared to have been the offender when he and Prendergast blocked out Daryl Kavanagh. But it was the former Drogheda captain who was dismissed.

Dangerous

While Bohs looked dangerous coming forward the best chance from play in the first-half fell to Lee Duffy as he got on the end of a Cathal Brady cross but his shot was well saved by Dean Delaney.

In injury-time at the end of the first-half the visitors were further angered when a penalty was awarded against them as Anto Murphy appeared to have fairly won the ball off Stephen Maher in the box but the linesman signalled for a foul, however Kavanagh failed to convert from the spot.

Just before Bohs got their winner Drogheda looked certain to score when Delaney palmed the ball to Duffy on the edge of the box and his deft lob was headed onto the crossbar by Fitzgerald, the ball rebounded to Kavanagh who smashed over from six yards out.
