Though the scoreline is flattering CBC were worthy winners of the Munster Schools junior cup when they inflicted a third final defeat in a row on Crescent Comprehensive at Thomond Park yesterday.

Tries win games and the Cork side crossed three times with their final touchdown coming two minutes from the end following an intercept.

CBC established an early lead when outhalf Eoin Monahan kicked a penalty after only five minutes. Prop Robert Loftus then got in for a CBC try after 15 minutes which Monahan converted.

John Hurley kept Crescent in touch with a 24th minute penalty but the Limerick side looked in big trouble when fullback Robert Hedderman got for another CBC try four minutes before the break to make it 15-3.

The game came alive seven minutes after the resumption when Hurley had a Crescent try which he also converted.

As both sides threatened the score remained the same until two minutes from the end. As Crescent attempted one final bid to snatch glory the CBC centre, JD O’Hea, intercepted and raced on to ensure glory for the Cork side.
