The dual-Derby and Breeders Cup winner High Chaparral has had to be put down at the age of 15. Coolmore Stud’s highly successful stallion was euthanised at Fethard Equine Hospital during what a statement from the stud said was “exploratory colic surgery due to a perforated intestine”.

The sire of So You Think and Toronado, ridden by Johnny Murtagh, famously beat his Aidan O’Brien-trained stable-mateHawk Wing in the 2003 Epsom Derby.
