Munster need to get back on track

Celtic League/Munster v Ospreys: It's rare you see a Munster team in any sort of trouble

Celtic League/Munster v Ospreys:It's rare you see a Munster team in any sort of trouble. A glance at the current Magners Celtic League table indicates coach Declan Kidney is thinking quite seriously of what he is going to do about the team's position of second place from the bottom and a whopping nine points behind the nearest Irish side, Connacht.

Such a haul from seven matches looks incongruous for the European champions.

Without their international players for another weekend, they face an Ospreys team with just as many players missing.

Sonny Parker, James Hook, Gavin Henson, Shane Williams, Adam Jones, Ian Evans, Jonathan Thomas, Ryan Jones, Duncan Jones and Alun Wyn Jones are unavailable as Wales face New Zealand, while six more are injured.

Kidney makes three changes in personnel and several positional switches from the side that started against Llanelli Scarlets last time out.

Anthony Horgan comes back into the side after recovering from injury and takes over from John Kelly on the wing.

Trevor Halstead, a replacement against the Scarlets, partners Lifeimi Mafi in the centre, with Barry Murphy named on the bench.

In the forwards the front five remain the same, Mick O'Driscoll again leading the side, but James Coughlan returns at the expense of John O'Sullivan, who is also named on the bench.

Kidney has rejigged the back row, with Alan Quinlan reverting to blindside from the number-eight berth he occupied in Wales and Coughlan now set to anchor the scrum.

"The two huge goals in the Magners League are to win it and to qualify for the Heineken Cup," said Kidney. "We haven't given up on winning it but we need to start getting results. So the next four games are vitally important, starting with this one on Saturday."

With a game in hand, Munster need to use it. Today they probably will.
