Sergio Garcia and Patrick Reed have been handed special exemptions into the field for next week's $6.7million DP World Tour Championship.
Neither player has contested the minimum of four regular European Tour events required for membership and have been removed from the Race to Dubai Rankings.
However, due to the “continued challenges of this year” caused by the coronavirus pandemic, the former Masters champions have been granted the exemptions by CEO Keith Pelley, the European Tour said in a statement.
Players who missed their minimums in 2021 will be also allowed to rejoin the newly renamed DP World Tour in 2022 with Pelley having waived the ‘termination of membership’ regulation.
Garcia, who was 43rd on the Race to Dubai, will definitely play at Jumeirah Golf Estates, but Reed was 49th and his exemption is dependent on his points total (783.5) being greater than the points of the last placed player to qualify.
