After a poor start Ireland's competitors in the women's golf competition enjoyed fine second rounds in Rio, with world amateur number one Leona Maguire particularly impressive as she shot a six under par 65 on a low scoring day.
Maguire carded seven birdies and dropped just a single shot on Thursday as she moved up the leaderboard and reignited her medal hopes.
She is currently three under par for the tournament, with Britain's Charley Hull in the bronze medal position on eight under par after she followed up her opening 68 with a 66.
Maguire is tied for 22nd place with the world number one, New Zealand's Lydia Ko, and they tee off together at 1.36pm on Friday along with the USA's Lexi Thompson.
Meanwhile Stephanie Meadow also enjoyed a fine second day, shooting a 65 which dragged her to one over par for the competition and into a share of 38th place after a disappointing 77 on Wednesday.
Like Maguire Meadow dropped just a single shot all day, and she finished like a steam train, birdying the 15th, 16th and 17th holes - and seeing a birdie effort on the last slide just past the cup.
Meadow’s tees off at 12.41pm on Friday alongside Ashleigh Simon of South Africa and France’s Gwladys Nocera Pucet.
Leading the competition is Korea’s Ingbee Park, who birdied three of her last four holes to move to 10 under par following back-to-back 66s.
USA's Stacy Lewis is in the silver medal position after she tore up the leaderboard with a stunning second round 63, which included 11 birdies.
