Eoin McHugh's goal on the stroke of half-time proved crucial as Sligo recorded their first win under new manager Pat Flanagan in this FBD Connacht Football League game at Connolly Park, Collooney, yesterday.

GMIT were well on top in the opening half before McHugh’s goal put Sligo ahead at half-time, 1-4 to 0-5.

Galway referee Shane Hehir showed black cards to Sligo right half back Charlie Harrison and GMIT midfielder Ronan Steede in the second half and the home team finished the game with 14 players when left half back Johnny Kelly was sent off on two yellow cards in stoppage time.

Eric Monaghan put GMIT ahead with a couple of points at the start of the first half before Mark Breheny opened Sligos account from a free in the 17th minute. They tagged on four points without reply in the second half to establish a five-point lead entering the closing stages.
