Thanks to an increasing focus on bringing the outdoors in with the use of expansive glazing which offers direct access to the garden, we’re more inclined than ever to treat our outside spaces as another room.
Gone are the days of a sad square of grass, a washing line and a neglected shed: now, our gardens come with cooking facilities that often far exceed the humble barbecue, biodiverse planting, zoned areas for relaxing, dining and play, and pergolas for decoration and shade, along with plenty of comfortable seating for long balmy evenings.
Lighting has had an upgrade thanks to the advent of solar and rechargeable lights, and textiles have also had a chat with themselves. Hardy outdoor rugs in snappy patterns, and sun-resistant fabric for parasols, cushions and seat covers are now the norm.
It all adds up to a decorator’s delight: here’s how to add some gloss to your garden this summer season.
