Vaccine certs for hospital visitors

Sir, – Tánaiste Leo Varadkar, in an effort to reduce the risk of the virus being introduced into hospitals, says Covid vaccine passes could be used for hospital visits.

If introduced, it would give great comfort to those patients and staff in hospitals who fear unnecessary infection, especially from those visitors who refuse to be vaccinated.

Perhaps it might encourage those patients in general wards, who are getting sicker by the day, to ask why some unvaccinated patients are being given priority of treatment by getting access to ICU ahead of them. They might question the fairness of a triage system of life and death that seems to reward the irresponsible but punishes the honourable.

A debate on this topic could arise if the system reaches overload.
