Tidying up the boardwalk

Sir, – On a stroll up the boardwalk this morning, I noticed a lovely young Japanese family of four taking a selfie in the morning sun. It should have been a beautiful shot for their holiday album, but I could see the backdrop of their photo. A ripped blue plastic bin liner billowing in the wind, a filthy old sleeping bag and hundreds of cigarette butts and beer cans.

The embarrassing and dangerous anti-social behaviour on the boardwalk every day may indeed be a policing issue. But one would have thought that after a full-page exposé in The Irish Times (August 19th), it would have prompted someone in Dublin City Council to ensure that, at a bare minimum, it is cleaned every morning. Is there to be no accountability at all? – Yours, etc,
