Shorter showers

A chara, – I see that our glorious Green leader is advising us, among other things, to take shorter showers in order to conserve energy ("Ryan to call for shorter showers and less driving", News, April 4th).

Perhaps we should go further and reintroduce the traditional Saturday night communal tin bath where all the family take their turn to use the same bath water, thus accomplishing a great saving in both energy and water while at the same time ensuring we all get a weekly wash – whether we need it or not.

But, may I add a note of caution, please make sure you don’t throw out the baby with the bathwater! – Is mise,

Sir, – Is there a week that goes by where there isn’t some brainwave of Eamon Ryan’s stretched into a news story?

Shorter showers is the latest.

How about turning Eamon off for a week? – Yours, etc,

Sir, – I was somewhat mystified when I read that Green Party leader Eamon Ryan was calling for shorter showers.

I had assumed he was on a visit to the Met Office and feared the impact on our vegetables and flower growth this summer. – Yours, etc,
