Schools and religious ethos

Sir, – Regarding "nationalising" schools (Letters, March 15th), this is a misnomer as schools can't not have an ethos.

Whether a school is single-sex or co-educational, English-medium or a Gaeilscoilleanna, religious or secular, these do not entail superiority but rather difference.

The provision of Gaelscoileanna cannot be provided on a nationalised basis, but rather only on a choice-based deontological basis. – Yours, etc,

JOHN KELLY,
