Russia’s nuclear threat

Sir, – After Russian state TV casually spoke about inflicting a nuclear holocaust upon Ireland for no other reason than geography, it is long overdue that the spineless bureaucrats of Ireland's Government expelled the entire Russian diplomatic mission immediately and indefinitely, along with prohibiting all economic activity with the Russian Federation with immediate and indefinite effect ("Russian state television broadcasts mocked-up clips of nuclear weapons destroying Ireland", News, May 2nd).

There can be no other response to such unprovoked casual aggression by the mouthpieces of Putin and his gangster bullies. – Yours, etc,

Sir, – You have to question why we continue to have diplomatic relations with Russia, when Russian state TV broadcast clips simulating Ireland being wiped out by nuclear weapons.

Given Russia’s appalling invasion of Ukraine, the deliberate targeting of the civilian population, and now this, why do we continue to have diplomatic relations at ambassadorial level? Ambassador Filatov should be summoned to the Department of Foreign Affairs, required to explain the reasons for the broadcast on state TV and then expelled.

The Russian state is clearly no friend of Ireland. – Yours, etc,

Sir, – Before Russia carries out its threat to explode a 100-megaton nuclear bomb off the coast of Donegal, could the Department of Foreign Affairs tell Moscow that Tory Island is not Boris Johnson’s holiday home? – Yours, etc,
