Redesigning the bus network

Sir, – Jarrett Walker (September 26th) expresses surprise at the “hysteria” and “very aggressive attacks” encountered in response to the launch of the proposed redesign of the Dublin Bus network.

Anyone who follows Irish current affairs will know that the responses of the public, media, sundry politicians and interest groups in Ireland are either complete apathy or absolute outrage. The possibility of reasoned public debate or intelligent informed discourse is, unfortunately, remote at best in the blame-ridden Ireland of today. “Heads must roll”, people must be made to “back down” or a “policy U-turn” must be forced. The golden goose is a resignation or two, or three. Now, I wonder who we can find to blame for such a sad state of affairs? – Yours, etc,
