Recycling and waste collection

Sir, – Why cannot the food companies producing food in tins, cartons and plastic tubs make them in a limited number of sizes but crucially make them in a slightly conical shape so that they stack inside each other, as with some yoghurt cartons? They would thus take up much less space in the green bin. – Yours, etc,

Sir, – Further to the letter by Richard Fox (July 5th), our green bin also filled up very quickly. I was told by the bin collectors that I could order a second green bin. This was supplied free of charge at the time, six to seven years ago. When we moved house this year, we requested a second green bin and were told it would cost €25 for delivery, which we paid. – Yours, etc,

Sir, – When my grandchildren’s grandchildren are standing on a rubbish heap twice the height of Everest, licking their parched lips for want of a drop of clean water, can I be guaranteed that their State-funded survival suits will have been paid for through centrally raised taxation? – Yours, etc,
