A chara, – Further to Michael C O'Connor's letter (April 4th), I bought a combined heat/light bulb for use in the bathroom of our then new house in 1974. When we moved to our current house in 1980, we brought it with us and installed it in the toilet. It has since been used almost every day, and still burns brightly. I have a concern that I may now have jinxed it by drawing attention to its longevity. – Is mise,

Sir, – Whatever about the longevity of the newer, lower-energy bulbs, I have never been a fan of their weak, insipid light. Bring back the incandescent bulbs of yore! – Yours, etc,
