Job-sharing in politics

Sir, – In a time when we are told of the difficulty of attracting women into public representation, due to the pressures of juggling family, work and political life, perhaps we should be giving serious consideration to the possibility of job-sharing in council or Dáil seats.

Apart from making schedules easier to manage for councillors or TDs, of any gender, it would afford the public a greater selection, and greater spectrum of representation, across the board.

I have no doubt that many people would be willing to step forward as part of a team to represent their communities. – Yours, etc,

BERNIE
