Sir, – Whilst I very much appreciate the exceptional work done by hospital staff in treating those affected by Covid-19, I cannot understand why their unions think they should get a bonus from the HSE ("Covid-19 bonus for frontline health workers under 'active consideration'," News, July 7th).
The reason they were not overwhelmed was down to the sacrifices of everyone else. Many people have lost their livelihoods and our country is practically bankrupt. It’s time to say thank you for all your efforts in doing your job and thank you everyone else for the sacrifices you have made.
What ever happened to “we are all in this together”?
