Faith of lay people

Sir, – Patricia Melvin is placing the remaining bit of faith she has in institutional Catholicism in the hope of a new, inclusive Gospel-value centred model of church (Rite and Reason, November 30th).

She represents the views of many Irish Catholics who are hoping against hope that all this talk of a new synodal process is not just smart public relations rhetoric. Like Sisyphus we have been pushing against the odds for so long, thinking we were getting to the top but each time our efforts have been in vain and nothing has changed.

How long can we endure more false promises?
