Basic Covid measures not being followed

Sir, – It has been proven that hand hygiene is a major factor in keeping down the rate of many infections. It does not need a genius to equate the rising rate of Covid to the slacking off of the public’s adherence to HSE guidance on the need to observe hand hygiene, coughing and mask-wearing.

I have noticed that though shoppers will wear masks when shopping, few if any still use the hand sanitisers. Indeed many of the stores do not monitor the use of sanitisers or bother to provide such facilities any more. Our local church provides such amenities but few avail of them.

Bring back the big posters, the television and newspaper advertisements to shake us out of our complacency if that is what we need.
