Banks and customer queries

Sir, – Bank of Ireland customers may not be able to phone their local branch for everyday inquiries ("Bank of Ireland intends to hang up on customer queries", February 6th) but what is the problem? I'm more concerned about the fact that they can still call me! – Yours, etc,

Sir, – Being unable to contact the local branch of my bank by phone would be the least of my worries. Here in the UK actually getting to speak to a real person at one of our commercial or business institutions can only materialise after a lengthy navigational trek though a complex maze of digital options. This can be an expensive and frustrating experience. What I do find is that opting to buy an item from the industry I’m calling does tend to elicit an immediate response from a human body who can assist me in circumventing the process. – Yours, etc,
