Connolly Station is a scary place

It’s a pity the capital’s main railway station is in such bad shape

Sir, – As a regular traveller on the Belfast-Dublin trains, I can’t help but notice the huge difference in quality between the two stations. Belfast enjoys a brand-new station, bright, spacious, clean and welcoming. Connolly, on the other hand, is a scary place.

It’s not clean, it’s overcrowded and its bar-restaurant has long closed, with no sign of a future. You wouldn’t hang around the place a minute longer than necessary. At a time when departures from both stations have doubled every day, and when demand has soared, it’s a great pity that the capital’s main railway station is in such bad shape. – Yours, etc,

JOSEPH MCMINN,
