Sir, – Letter writer John Burns points to the importance of structured periods of quiet time and meditation in schools, including transcendental meditation. He says it could help students develop greater calm, attention and self-awareness (“The case for meditation in Irish education”, Letters, September 24th).

This approach at education level would continue to bear fruit down the road in today’s world that lacks wonder and mystery yet is full of noise, pressure, anger and negativity.

Yes, this may sound like a simple idea, but it is one that could clearly have a profound effect. – Yours, etc,
