Sir, – While it’s good that Google has been fined for breaches of privacy, it is odd that users were unaware (“Irish data protection watchdog fines Google €403m over GDPR breaches,” Business, September 21st).
For a long time I have noticed that when I do a Google search or use Gemini (their AI assistant), afterwards I am inundated with targeted adverts.
Not only that but it seems they share that information across other platforms and I get targeted by them also.
I have tried going incognito but even that fails to protect me.

I do not live in the EU but this insidious targeting is evident no matter where you live.
Other platforms, I hope, are under the scrutiny of the Data Protection Commission, and hopefully the UK follows suit. It’s only by all countries banding together that change can be brought about.
