Sir, – Caroline O’Doherty reports on the various protesters at the No Welcome for Trump march in Dublin at the weekend (“‘The only people on the streets are here to oppose him’: Thousands protest Trump visit”, News, September 14th).
Notable by their absence were the supersized tractors and trucks that blocked our streets and roads recently as part of the “fuel protests”.
One would have thought that the man mostly responsible for the increase in global fuel prices would have inspired those same protesters to come on to our streets again. Seemingly not. – Yours, etc,

Sir, – I learned to fish for salmon and sea trout on a small river in Doonbeg. Until recently, that same river was full of migrating salmon and sea trout fresh in from the North Atlantic. Today the river’s salmon and sea trout stocks are drastically depleted by overfishing, pollution and summer droughts caused by climate change.
The cost to the climate of US president Donald Trump’s overnight holiday in Ireland and his attitude to climate change is abhorrent.
As I watched the news coverage of countless helicopters and motorcades descending on his Doonbeg golf course, I thought of the few fish left in the river Creegh, starved of oxygen from the latest summer drought. – Yours, etc,
