Sir, – I agree with Méabh Ní Choileáin (Letters, August 7th) that Irish is something to celebrate and cherish, something much more than a mere utility. It is the generational transmission of our culture and heritage, our sense of belonging.
Because English has attained a particular global dominance as the vernacular of the online world, the future of Irish is now more imperative than ever. The speaking of Irish within this anglophone echo chamber is no longer an illusion, but a necessary reality.
Irish is not a mirage. It is an oasis. – Yours, etc,
