Sir, – When I was a student, I interviewed Glen Hansard for my university newspaper in Bristol.
He was promoting Once and it seems unthinkable now that an Oscar winner would take 45 minutes to indulge a student asking some questions about his film. I can’t imagine mine were the most insightful or original he faced that day.
He recognised my Northern Irish accent immediately, ordered us each a Guinness and we discussed our thoughts on Ireland after we had finished talking about the film. He was charming and remarkably humble.
Truly a great loss to all. – Yours, etc,
RM Block
